With the holidays quickly approaching, everyone at KHES would like to wish a happy, healthy and safe holiday season to one and all! Friday, December 18 will be our last day before the break with a regular dismissal time. School will resume on January 4! The office will be open Dec. 21 and 22 from 8:00- 2:30.

On Friday, Dec. 4 Third, Fourth and Fifth grade students attended an assembly, Robotics. Robots connect science and technology and spark the imagination in all ages. Students participated in several interactive demonstrations. They really enjoyed the drone!!

Third grade students and Ms. Penny have been hard at work learning the songs for our holiday musical! They will present The Big Chill, Hoping for a Snow Day! on Wednesday, December 16. Parents, friends and family are invited! The first performance will be for Fourth and Fifth grade at 1:00 pm. The second performance is for Kindergarten , First and Second grade at 1:45 pm. Our PTA will hold their December General Membership meeting immediately after the 1:45 performance.

We have a very short week with the Thanksgiving Holiday this week! Many classes have been studying the First Thanksgiving in preparation for their own feast! Tuesday is Spirit Day! Students and staff dressed like Pilgrims and Native Americans. Dr. Florence showed his school spirit as a Native American!

IT'S BOOK FAIR WEEK!!!!!!! The Scholastic Book Fair is open daily this week from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm , with a "late night" until 6:00 pm on Wednesday. The Book Fair will close on Friday at 10:30 am. The school retains a portion of the sales which is used to purchase new books for the library. In addition to children's book, there will be cookbooks, posters, pencils, and bookmarks, etc. There will be "Wish Boxes" in the library for anyone that would like to purchase that special teacher a book for his/her classroom. Boxes will be labeled with teacher names.

Many classes at KHES participate in Reading Buddies or Book Buddies. Upper grades pair with lower grades for this fun activity. This is a great way to instill a love of reading in all! Students usually meet once a week with their buddy class. They are encouraged to find a quiet place to read and discuss a book of their choosing. As the year progresses, the younger student will also read to their older buddy! Mrs. Gray's First Grade and Mrs. Childress' Third Grade have taken it one step farther. Not only do they participate in Reading Buddies , they also do Math Buddies!!

Last Week:
On October 28, local fire departments came to KHES for Fire Safety education! Students got to interact with Pluggy, the fire hydrant! The lesson was completed with a tour of the fire truck! Please be sure to review your fire plan with your children. Practice: Getting low and crawling under the smoke; Stop, drop and roll ; Determine an outside meeting place; and, CHANGE THOSE BATTERIES IN YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS!! Thank you to all the firefighters!

Last Friday was a school spirit day. Students and staff alike got into the spirit and rocked the 80's:-)
Thursday, we had our annual 2nd to 3rd grade transition night. Thank you to all the parents that came out to learn all about a typical day in third grade and what will be expected of their child in the next school year.
Soaring at Khes Week of May 18th
Last week, I didn't write about our 5th grade Family Science Night because I didn't have any pictures to share. I had heard how awesome the event had been but was unable to show you. Now, I will let the pictures speak for themselves! Obviously, Family Science Night was a great learning experience for both kids and parents! Way to go 5th grade:-)
