Last Week:
On October 28, local fire departments came to KHES for Fire Safety education! Students got to interact with Pluggy, the fire hydrant! The lesson was completed with a tour of the fire truck! Please be sure to review your fire plan with your children. Practice: Getting low and crawling under the smoke; Stop, drop and roll ; Determine an outside meeting place; and, CHANGE THOSE BATTERIES IN YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS!! Thank you to all the firefighters!
First graders in Pam Gray's class explored the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies! The students opened their cookies then scraped the creme center to reflect the four major phases of the moon. In the end, the first graders got to eat their "moons" ! It was a deliciously successful lesson!
Kindergarten students in Mrs. Farrell's class partnered with Fifth grade students in Mrs. Whitehurst's class to research bats! Kindergartners recorded bat facts which included bat species, habitat and food sources. The kindergarteners enjoyed their peer helpers and the fifth graders were extremely patient with our youngest students!
The entire Third grade went on a field to the Chesapeake Planetarium on Thursday, October 29. This field trip was a culmination of their space unit in science. Students viewed the solar system and reviewed what they learned about planets.
This Week:
Not even the rain stops our Safety Patrol from keeping students safe! Max Roberts and Gwen Botson help everyday with parent drop off! Their dedication is truly commendable considering the downpours last Monday ! We also have Safety Patrol students stationed in the hallways and on each bus. Each Kindergarten and First grade class has an upper class escort at the end of the day! Thanks to Mrs. Heroux for organizing our Safety Patrol!
