Students in Mr. Shope's Fourth grade got creative after solving all their Math Superstar problems!!

First Graders have been  studying  communities. The unit started with discussing how communities grow and change over time. Next, they explored the different types of communities: rural, suburban and urban and what buildings can be found in each. The First graders brainstormed important community businesses and organizations and then  picked the building they wanted to build. They constructed the buildings out of recycled materials, wood, legos, stickers, paint and markers. Students also built houses to go in the community at home. Once the projects were brought to school, they organized a town based on the concepts of urban, rural and suburban and discussed the placement of each building within the community. At the culmination of individual class discussion, the three first grade classes  combined their buildings to make one big community!

Just a reminder: Parents are asked to let their children travel home the same way every day, unless the parent has clearly communicated a change in writing to the teacher.  If a last minute, unforeseen emergency requires a parent to call the office to communicate a transportation change, an administrator must approve and the parent will be asked for identifying information for security purposes.  Changes in transportation should not be made for student play dates.  Frequent transportation changes are not conducive to safe and efficient dismissal.  Any pattern of frequent transportation changes will be addressed by the administration.
