Many classes at KHES participate in Reading Buddies or Book Buddies. Upper grades pair with lower grades for this fun activity. This is a great way to instill a love of reading in all! Students usually meet once a week with their buddy class. They are encouraged to find a quiet place to read and discuss a book of their choosing. As the year progresses, the younger student will also read to their older buddy! Mrs. Gray's First Grade and Mrs. Childress' Third Grade have taken it one step farther. Not only do they participate in Reading Buddies , they also do Math Buddies!! What a great way to make learning fun!
KHES is participating in the Gratitude Graffiti Project. The project is a forty day practice of purposeful appreciation of one's life through interactive art. Mrs. Heroux, our school counselor, has set up a bulletin board in the Pride Hall where students and staff are encouraged to add thankful thoughts~ a perfect endeavor for this time of year!
Mark your calendar for our first PTA Movie Night of the school year on Friday, November 20 at 6:00 pm!! The movie will be Inside Out! Forms will go home to order pizza and there will be Spirit wear available for purchase. Please make plans to attend this fun family night!

Education will be the focus of a forum held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Pitt Center in Southern Shores. Presenters will share the present concerns and how the public can help meet the challenges. Speakers will be NC School Boards Association Government Relations Director Leanne Winner and Hyde County Schools Superintendent Randolph Latimore, Phd. Each will offer unique perspectives about education in North Carolina and be available to answer questions. Mark your calendar for this informational event!
