We have a very short week with the Thanksgiving Holiday this week! Many classes have been studying the First Thanksgiving in preparation for their own feast! Tuesday is Spirit Day! Students and staff dressed like Pilgrims and Native Americans. Dr. Florence showed his school spirit as a Native American!
Pam Gray's First Grade has been diligently practicing for a Thanksgiving play. Students will be performing A Turkey For Thanksgiving on Tuesday, November 24. Not only have they practiced their lines but have created all the scenery and props for the play.
Kindergarten students in Ms. Hendricks' class have been decorating shirts with Native American signs for their upcoming Thanksgiving Feast. They have been learning about the First Thanksgiving, Native Americans and Pilgrims.
Students in Mrs. King's Third Grade math class practiced learning geometry vocabulary by walking around the room, reading geometric terms on cards and selecting what they thought were the correct definitions. Then they went back with Ipads and used QR codes to check there answers.
Third Grade classes held a mock town council meeting to help students understand local government. Each class elected a mayor and then held their meeting.
Pictured below is Ms. Childress' class mayor, Julianna Forte.
Charlotte Heroux and Diane Childress attended the PBIS statewide award program on November 17 in Greensboro where they accepted the Green Ribbon award for the PBIS efforts we're doing in our school (SOAR, Falcon Class, etc.). PBIS, or Positive Behavior Intervention Support, is a program that uses positive means to encourage students to make good choices in their behavior.
Reminder: No school Thursday November 26 and Friday, November 27
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
