Tuesday, March 2 was Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day! Cindy Lou Who (aka Mrs. Gardner) spent the day in Mrs. Farrell's (aka Cindy Lou Who !) Kindergarten! KHES students were treated to guest readers at the end of the day. First Flight High School students shared their favorite Dr. Seuss books with our students! A special thanks to all our readers (some were former KHES students!)!

Soaring at Khes Week of February 22, 2016
Our very own hardworking KHES After School Chorus Club will perform Seussical, Jr. on February 26-27, at 7:00 p.m. Our students and staff have been rehearsing for months and are looking forward to entertaining you. There will be no admission fee but a donation jar will be set up to benefit our After School Chorus Club. Please plan to come see our very talented KHES Chorus perform this fun play!!!

Last week was Love the Bus week! KHES bus drivers were presented with cards from students and a gift card! Students from Bus 122 presented Thersa Booth, their driver, with the goodies! We love our bus drivers!

Hooray for 100 Days!!! Thursday, February 4, was the 100th day of school! Kindergarten and First Grade celebrated by popping 100 balloons! Assistant Principal, Debbie Shepheard, had the honor of popping the balloons. Students participated in many 100th day activities in their classrooms. Mrs. Farrell's Kindergarten made 100th day headbands and counted out 100 snacks!

Zoe Kane and Rylee Smeltzer, 5th grade students, assist Mrs. Heroux each week with keeping the S.O.A.R. bulletin board up to date with pictures of soaring students. Students are recognized for staying safe, offering help, acting responsible and respecting others. S.O.A.R. awards can be given by any staff member or student who observes someone soaring at KHES! Keep up the good work!

A big thank you to Michele Godsey and Southern Bank for their generous donation of bike helmets to Kitty Hawk Elementary School! A new effort was launched on January 4, 2016 by Dare County Superintendent Dr. Sue Burgess that aims at enforcing the state law requiring all students under the age of 16 to wear a bike helmet when riding a bike.The Superintendent's initiative also includes skateboards. If a student arrives at school without a helmet, parents will be notified. In the event a parent cannot bring a helmet to school for their child, one will be provided.
