Seussified Christmas
Thank you to the cast, crew, teachers, and staff that helped make this years Christmas Play "A Seussified Christmas" a huge success. The students and staff worked many hours rehearsing, building sets, preparing costumes, and planning. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes to prepare for a performance like this. Please take time to thank those that were involved in providing Hatteras Island some great entertainment Saturday, Sunday and Monday for CHES.

Student - Parent - Teacher Conferences
The Middle School Teachers are sponsoring Student-Led Conferences on Tuesday December 8th and Wednesday December 9th. Parents may sign up either day for the 8-10 am (breakfast items provided) time or the 3-5 pm (snack food items provided) time slot. Your child should have brought home a form for you to sign and check which time works best for you.

Hatteras Island Veterans Honored
Hatteras Island Veterans were celebrated and thanked on Friday at CHSS. The morning started off with a breakfast that was served to the Vets, prepared by the Foods and OCS classes. At 9:30 the gym was filled with students and community members to show their support for the Veterans as they entered the gym with patriotic music played by the CHSS Band. The elementary school 1st grade classes brought hand made cards and sang a song to the Vets.

Cold Stunned Turtle Training
On Friday, a group of CHSS volunteers trained to become certified to care for cold stunned turtles. Ms. Linda Austin, Media Center Specialist, is the sponsor for this group that helps Hatteras Island Wildlife Volunteers care for and help save cold stunned turtles. Last year school year, the group managed to save several turtles here on campus when the temperature reached freezing levels causing portions of the Pamlico Sound to freeze.

6th Grade Celebrates with Italian Feast
Mrs. Lovie Heilig's Language Arts students recently read The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. In connection with the novel's setting of Venice, Italy, students designed Venetian carnival masks, shared Italian foods, and showcased multimedia projects. The projects consisted of posters, minecraft scenes, videos, and slide shows. Parents were invited to come and enjoy the show.

Middle School Students Set Records
October 14th CHSS Middle School Student's Dylan Gray and Emmiline Baker both set school records for the fastest middle school cross country times. Dylan finished the race with a time of 13:17 and Emmiline finished with a time of 16:34. Great job to all of the CHSS Cross Country Team that have been working hard and preparing for the conference meet that will take place on October 21st at Manteo. Good luck.
