We began our school year with staff and students reading Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson and talking about the ripple effect of our actions.  Through our school-wide implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support, we embody our SOARing expectations (Stay Safe, Offer Help, Act Responsibly and Respect Yourself and Others) everyday. We wanted to take it a step further this year, and really have staff and students alike focus on the consequences of our actions and how we affect other people.

Last week, we celebrated National Random Acts of Kindness Week. Leading up to our RAK Week, we had classroom guidance lessons focusing on kindness and how we can be the spark to a "Kindness Chain Reaction."  Students were challenged to complete Random Acts of Kindness for the Week and as they did, they were able to add a link to their classroom Kindness Chains.  At the end of our RAK week, we put all of our classroom chains together.  We completed enough RAKs to go around our PRIDE hall...definitely something to be proud of!  Even though it was a short week, our school completed 522 Random Acts of Kindness!

Students were excited to share the kind acts they did for others and staff got involved as well...We ended our RAK week but at KHES we know, it's ALWAYS cool to be KIND!
