Kitty Hawk Elementary School, SOARing at KHES week of February 8, 2016

Hooray for 100 Days!!! Thursday, February 4, was the 100th day of school! Kindergarten and First Grade celebrated by popping 100 balloons! Assistant Principal, Debbie Shepheard, had the honor of popping the balloons. Students participated in many 100th day activities in their classrooms. Mrs. Farrell's Kindergarten made 100th day headbands and counted out 100 snacks!

Mrs. Smith's Kindergarten went on a scavenger hunt for 100 Hershey Kisses!  Each Kiss had a numbered sticker that , when found, were placed on a hundreds board. All kisses were deliciously found!! Other activities included  ten sets of ten stickers for their 100th day crown and workstations where students used 100 objects to build a structure.

First graders in Pam Gray's class made words from the letters in one hundred for the 100th Day of school!

Kitty Hawk Elementary students were recently entertained by the group Jabali Afrika. Jabali Afrika combines a fusion of traditional African rhythms and original compositions and makes them come alive on a wide variety of musical instruments. Student and staff members were called on to participate! It was an enjoyable and lively afternoon!

Students in Nicole Farrell's Kindergarten were word detectives recently. They were in search of spelling rules such as digraphs, blends and r control vowels in words written all over the room. Excellent sleuthing!

Preparations are underway for Read Across America Day on March 2! High school students are being invited to read to all classrooms on that day.  Ellen Bryson and Liziane Calfee, KHES Media Coordinator and assistant, are working on the Dr. Seuss Folder of Good and Fun Things for each classroom. It is a contest where classes can earn Seuss Bucks for doing fun research and art projects. The winning class will be rewarded with a Dr. Seuss Reading Party.

A BIG thank you to all the parents who have linked their Harris Teeter VIC card to our school! Please consider doing this if you haven't already. It is a great way to earn money for our school.  Click here if you would like link your card to KHES!
