Outer Banks Community Organizations

If there's an event happening in the Tri-Villages, it's likely held at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building. We serve as a gathering place to facilitate community spirit by organizing events and sponsoring activities that for the enjoyment of Hatteras residents and visitors.

The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for all people through conservation, activism, research and education. Founded in 1984, Surfrider’s most important coastal environmental work is carried out by many chapters located along the East, West, Gulf, Puerto Rican, and Hawaiian coasts. Surfrider now has over 30,000 members in the USA; in addition, International Surfrider chapters and affiliates have been established in the countries of Japan, Brazil, Australia, France and Spain.

Founded in 1993, Surfrider’s Outer Banks Chapter consists of more than 100 members — both locals and visitors — all committed to preserving the environment and access opportunities that define our home from Corolla to Frisco. It’s our belief that the more people enjoy the beach, the more they’ll work to protect its culture and ecology.

Over the past two decades, Outer Banks Surfrider’s tackled issues such as water quality and offshore energy while striving to give back to the community via scholarship programs, events and beach clean-ups. We invite anyone who wishes to join the cause — or just engage in healthy debate — to come out to one of our meetings or other scheduled activities.

At one time, the Outer Banks were one of North Carolina’s best kept secrets. Over the years, many people from all over the United States and abroad have discovered the unspoiled beaches, rich history, quaint surroundings, and down home attitude of the area’s inhabitants. A number of these visitors have decided to make Kill Devil Hills, the hub of the northern beaches, their home. This influx of people has led to a diversified group of citizens whose favorite question is “How did you get here?” Mingled with this “newcomers” are a treasured group of “natives” who can entertain endlessly with spinning tales – some about the one that got away and some with fascinating historical references.

We at the Wanchese Assembly of God are here to meet the needs of the families in our area by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in a warm and loving atmosphere.
