The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for all people through conservation, activism, research and education.
Founded in 1984, Surfrider’s most important coastal environmental work is carried out by many chapters located along the East, West, Gulf, Puerto Rican, and Hawaiian coasts. Surfrider now has over 30,000 members in the USA; in addition, International Surfrider chapters and affiliates have been established in the countries of Japan, Brazil, Australia, France and Spain.
Founded in 1993, Surfrider’s Outer Banks Chapter consists of more than 100 members — both locals and visitors — all committed to preserving the environment and access opportunities that define our home from Corolla to Frisco. It’s our belief that the more people enjoy the beach, the more they’ll work to protect its culture and ecology.
Over the past two decades, Outer Banks Surfrider’s tackled issues such as water quality and offshore energy while striving to give back to the community via scholarship programs, events and beach clean-ups. We invite anyone who wishes to join the cause — or just engage in healthy debate — to come out to one of our meetings or other scheduled activities.
