Outer Banks Community Organizations

Chartered in 1971, The Outer Banks Woman’s Club (OBWC) is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs - the largest women’s volunteer organization in the world. 

When the club was chartered, the Outer Banks was still a remote and sparsely-populated area. Members recognized and addressed many issues such as the need for quality school systems, access to hospital care, and the preservation of Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Over the years, members have raised $25,000 for the construction of the Dare County Youth Center and over $10,000 for the Roanoke Island NC Aquarium.  ​ The club’s proud legacy of achievement has been recognized by the Governor of NC, the NC Department of Human Resources, the Dare County Board of Commissioners, the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce, and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of NC.

Our members are committed to living the volunteer spirit and do so through various fundraising and community service projects.

Money collected through fundraising is used to support community organizations, scholarships, and community service programs.

From year-round artist residencies, regular classes for the community and children, workshops in various media and special events, the Pocosin School of Fine Craft plays an essential role in northeastern North Carolina's arts culture and community. We offer workshops for ceramics, metal work, jewelry making, drawing, painting, textiles, wood, digital fabrication and more. In addition to workshops and classes, we manage our Main Street Gallery in downtown Columbia. There, we feature the artwork and craftsmanship of our resident artists, former residents from around the nation and rotating exhibits. 

Located on the scenic shores of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, the Roanoke Island Yacht Club (RIYC) offers a welcoming home for boating enthusiasts, families, and lovers of the water. With stunning views of the Croatan Sound, a private marina, and a charming clubhouse, RIYC is the perfect spot for sailing, social events, and coastal relaxation.

The club hosts a variety of activities year-round, including regattas, sailing lessons, youth programs, fishing tournaments, and member gatherings. Whether you're an experienced sailor or just starting out, RIYC provides a supportive and vibrant community rooted in maritime tradition.

St. John Methodist Church is a community of people committed to worship and following Jesus's call. We offer weekly Sunday services and Bible studies. Additionally, we organize outreach projects on Hatteras Island, such as our Community Dinners in the winter and a 24/7 Tiny Food Pantry. We welcome newcomers in all stages of their walks with Christ. 

Here at The Little School Of Fish we promote holistic learning paired with play-based learning. We love to help stimulate learning by using imagination, encouraging curiosity, creating friendships and using a combination of the arts and nature. We would love to add your little one into our classroom. At The Little School Of Fish, any 'fin' is possible.
