Did you know that it was only in 2011 that every area of the Outer Banks could serve liquor by the drink?! Manteo and several Hatteras Island towns were slow to allow full bar service, with the worry that it would change the personality of the small towns. That, thankfully, hasn't happened. But, until restaurant patrons could order a mixed drink, the owners of these Outer Banks establishments had to make sure that their beer and wine offerings were excellent. And excellent they are. In most every Outer Banks restaurant now, the importance of wine that perfectly pairs with the offered food is clearly considered. Even if the list is relatively small, it is carefully curated, with options from quite affordable to quite extravagant. A few restaurants consider their wine choices so important that they actually have a wine cooler room, and the wait staff is more than sufficiently prepped on the qualities of the offerings. Particularly in the winter, when crowds have lessened, some restaurants offer half-price wine nights – an affordable way to try new wines and broaden your palate. You can expect that almost every Outer Banks restaurant will serve wine, but the ones we've noted here have truly good and varied choices.
