Two brewers and two bartenders had a dream to bring back the tradition of rum on the Outer Banks...

In their quest for a location to bring their plan to fruition, the team discovered the perfect spot—a historic building in downtown Manteo. With two of them being Manteo High School alumni, the town felt like an ideal fit. Additionally, three out of the four partners hail from Kill Devil Hills, leading them to choose "Kill Devil" as the fitting name for their rum. With the support of the town, they took the necessary steps to establish a craft distillery.

The chosen site is a historic brick building on Budleigh St., erected in 1946. Over the years, it has housed Twiford Furniture, Davis Department Store, and, finally, the Dare County Board of Education, which vacated the premises in 2004. The only significant alteration to the building was the addition of a concrete floor for the distilling area. Surpassing expectations, the building revealed a beautiful pine floor and sturdy cypress beams, repurposed for their tasting bar, retail counter, and front door.

Immersed in rum history and pirate legend, the Outer Banks serves as a perfect backdrop for their venture, and the team is committed to preserving and embodying this spirited legacy.
