MISSION

The mission of Manteo Preservation Trust is to enhance community awareness of Manteo’s historic, cultural and architectural heritage.

GOALS

The organizational goals of Manteo Preservation Trust are to:

  1. Provide a complete survey of historic properties in the Town of Manteo and surrounding areas. This project is ongoing, and updates are regularly posted to our historic survey. See the link to this survey below.
  2. Identify the Manteo architectural designs that reflect its coastal history and define its unique sense of place.
  3. Develop and provide a reference source for use in restoration or future development projects.
  4. Promote public interest in preservation needs and significance of historic properties through exhibits, lectures, tours and educational programs.
  5. Foster neighborhood pride through a better understanding of preservation goals and a shared sense of worth.
  6. Place bronze MPT plaques on historic structures built before the 1939 fire that destroyed two-thirds of Manteo’s downtown.

You can view the historic structures map and list via the Town of Manteo’s website. MPT is working on providing a detailed reference of the homes and buildings on the list.
