The Dare County Regional Airport was founded in the 1940s, and it's served as an airport for the Civil Air Patrol and Naval Auxiliary Air Station during World War II and a public airport since its establishment. It's now operated by The Dare County Airport Authority, and it is used by flight recreation businesses for activities including sightseeing, sky diving, air tours and charter flights. The airport itself has two runways with radio controlled lighting, AWOS weather service and DME, VOR and ADF navigational equipment.
