Outer Banks Community Organizations

Room in the Inn is a non-profit, church-based program that organizes shelter for the homeless in local communities nationwide. The Outer Banks chapter is based at the Ocean View Baptist Church, and it provides hospitality, food, shelter and support services.

From community celebrations, exercise classes, school gatherings, town meetings, private events and more, the Ocracoke Community Center does it all. This multi-use building serves as a hub for the island's activities and programs, both for private and island-wide functions. Any organization or individual can apply to rent it for their event. The Ocracoke Foundation (OFI) is a grass roots 501(c)(3) created in 2006. Our approach focuses on environmental stewardship, responsible economic development and education. The Foundation may undertake direct projects or assist local organizations and individuals provided the work falls under our mission guidelines. Assistance is available through direct funding, fiscal sponsorship or technical assistance.

Island Communities are unique. Un-bridged island communities are an endangered species. What draws people to live and visit these special places? Some say they are drawn to the sense of community, a slower pace, natural environment, tradition, or the collection of unique personalities. Whatever the attraction, communities like this deserve to remain a part of American culture. The question is how? Our Mission is community revitalization through the responsible promotion and use of Ocracoke’s assets, whereby the needs of the community – educational, economic, social, and infrastructure – are supported through direct funding, fiscal sponsorship or technical assistance.

Main Board – OFI has nine directors on its board serving 1 year terms.  All positions are volunteer. Meetings are held twice a month. New directors who are asked to serve are chosen based on the following criteria:

We're a collective of realtors that seeks to connect, educate and network to form closer ties with our Outer Banks neighbors. Through our association, we have our Young Professionals Network that develops rising leaders within our group as well as in the community. We work with young professional realtors, encouraging them to further their careers through pursuing leadership roles within their local community and beyond, be an informed advocate within the industry, work cooperatively and learn from each other, and ultimately, be exceptional realtors within the community they serve. 

Outer Banks Entrepreneurs, LLC is a woman owned and operated program to help support women who are looking to grow their business. Outer Banks Entrepreneurs was founded by Kim Twiddy over 10 years ago. Kim's goal is to share her business knowledge with other women so they can succeed in their goals to own and operate their own business.
