Outer Banks Community Organizations

The Mustang Outreach Program was established in 2012 as a non-profit organization that offers music lessons to students in the community in order to promote cultural arts programs and to encourage students' interest in music through residencies, mentoring programs and professional music performances. Our main objective is to facilitate a stage area for musically talented students or those with a passion for music who strive to practice, perform, and learn. 

Common Good includes equity, fairness and the opportunity for every person to be clothed, fed, healthy, safe and free to achieve their potential. The Common Good asks us to do this challenging work with compassion – to speak the truth, in love, to power.

We are an All Volunteer Organization. Nancy Proctor is our publisher with a background in organizational and human development. Susan Merrill, involved in many community events and organizations, manages our calendar of events from time to time, we have guest storytellers.

OBX History Weekend is a free, interactive, public-oriented symposium celebrating the questers, inventors, dreamers, and pioneers whose paths included the Outer Banks. Each day hosts different presentations, entertainments, site tours and living history reenactments that include new information about Roanoke colonists and their remarkable discoveries; English and Native views of the Carolina Algonquians; new discoveries about the fate of the fabled Lost Colony; a new view of Sir Walter Raleigh; and groundbreaking aviators including the Wright Brothers and Sister, General Billy Mitchell, Amelia Earhart, Chuck Yeager, Francis Rogallo and much, much more.

The program is designed as a gathering of scholars from around the world to discuss from their own unique perspectives the remarkable emergence of new research which is certain to stimulate excitement and discussion on the Outer Banks.

The Ocracoke Civic & Business Association (OCBA) was founded and incorporated in 1991.

We are a non-profit corporation organized primarily to further the common good and general welfare of residents of and visitors to Ocracoke within the meaning of Section 501 (c) (4) of the Internal Revenue Code. The OCBA strives to provide opportunities for dialogue, education, advancement and improvement of all aspects of its Contributors through meetings, training, communications, publications, and other programs and activities.

The OCBA coordinates several island events: the July 4 activities including professional fireworks, the semi-annual Island-Wide Yard Sale (fall and spring), Blackbeard’s Pirate Jamboree (late October or early November), the Holiday Market (late November) and the Island Celebration (holiday lights competition).

Board meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Ocracoke Community Center.
