Last week:
What a great week it was at KHES! Our Walk/Bike to School Day was a huge success. Almost 1/3 of our students participated in this event. We actually had one school bus arrive at school completely empty! Amazing weather, great conversation and community involvement made this a very special day! A huge THANK YOU to everyone that helped!
Our First Annual Family Science Night was a splendid success and our Spring Book Fair set a new record for revenue.
This week:
Tuesday, May 12th, is the monthly Dare County Board of Education meeting. It will be held at Cape Hatteras Elementary School from 5 - 6pm.
Wednesday, May 13th, our KHES PTA is having a staff appreciation luncheon. On behalf of all of us, I send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone that donated their time, food, supplies and gifts. We truly appreciate being appreciated:-)
Thursday, May 14th, the 4th graders will be performing their North Carolina musical. The show will be at 8:30.
Friday, May 15, the Southern Shores Police Department will be having a child safety seat check from 3 to 5 pm.

Attention all parents looking for a night out.....
Our 4th grade NEED team won both a state and national award for their work to educate others about conserving energy. Now, they will be heading to Washington, D.C. The trip, however, will cost $550 per person so the team is having a fundraiser.
Our fundraiser: Parents Night Out
We will have dinner and a movie next Friday, May 15th, in the gym. Parents will be able to drop off the kids and we will feed and watch them from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. Look for a flyer in backpack mail! Reservations are due Wednesday, May 13th. Cost: $15 1st child, $10/each sibling....KHES students only.
Also, Field Day is rapidly approaching and Coach D is still in need of volunteers. If you are able to help, please email him at dvorinda@daretolearn.org. Coach D also just completed a masters program so if you see him, say congratulations!! WAY TO GO COACH D!
