Last week:
Report cards went home last week. If you haven't returned your child's enveloped with a signature, please do so. Also, OBX Frozen Yogurt (Walmart/Harris Teeter in Kitty Hawk) is offering a treat for all students that maintained a B average or better for the 3rd quarter. During the entire month of April, students of all ages can simply bring in and proudly present their report card to receive a cone made with their favorite yogurt flavor. They will even put sprinkles on top! YUMMY!
With the help of Ticia Valentine, Dare County Teacher of the Year and Art Teacher here at KHES, our students have been creating recycled masterpieces in celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd. Please come by and check it out and remember to be good to the EARTH!
This week:
This week will start off with a visit from the North Carolina Symphony! Click here to learn more about the North Carolina Symphony: www.ncsymphony.org There will be two shows, both of which will be on Monday morning. K-2nd will see the symphony at 9:10am. 3rd-5th will see them at 9:50am. If you would like to check them out before or after the show, click on the link above.
Also this week, the Dare County Board of Education will have their monthly meeting. This meeting is on Tuesday, April 21st and will be held at First Flight Elementary School. It will begin at 5pm. We encourage everyone to attend because it is a great opportunity to stay informed and actively participate in our school system.
SAY CHEESE! Friday, April 24 is student picture day. Each individual student will have his/her picture taken. No money is required up front. Student pictures will be sent home, at which time they can be purchased or returned to school.
Next week at a glance:
Our annual blood drive is coming up. It will be held on April 30th from 1pm to 6pm. Students will be learning about this special event and we could use your help and support as well. First, we are in need of volunteers. To sign up, click here. If someone donates blood on behalf of your child, your KHES child will get a free t-shirt! We also need individuals/businesses to donate food for the event. We are asking kindergarten and 1st grade families to donate baked goods, 2nd and 3rd grade families to donate snacks, and 4th and 5th grade families to donate lunch type items. Thank you in advance for helping us make this special event a successful one. Think of the lives we can save!
Mark your calendar:
Two exciting events have been added to our school calendar. Both events will be happening on May 6th. First, that day is walk/bike to school day. Stations will be set up so that students will be able to join groups of other students walking or biking to school. Adult supervision will be provided for each group. Safety is our first concern but fresh air, conversation and laughter will be enjoyed by all. Each student will sign a banner when he/she arrives at school. What a great way to start the day. Second, our family science night is also on May 6th. 5th grade students and teachers will provide 12 science stations for families to move through. This is a great opportunity to learn about and experience hands-on science with your child.
Until next time...
