Hatteras Island’s happy spot is The Wreck Tiki Bar, located on the docks at Hatteras Landing next to the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry. Known as “the beachiest place at the beach,” The Wreck serves casual fare such as panini sandwiches, nachos and quesadillas with creative touches. Their homemade veggie chili won its category in the Outer Banks Chili Cookoff, so be sure to try some, either by itself or on nachos. The Wreck has a nice draft beer selection (10 taps) with seasonal lines added for variety. The atmosphere is laid-back and fun, and outdoor dining on the deck is available – nightly Pamlico Sound sunsets are a highlight here! From Memorial Day to Labor Day, The Wreck hosts live acoustic music on the deck on Thursdays from 7 to 10 p.m. On weekends stop by and relax if your beach house or motel isn’t ready for check-in. The Wreck is family friendly, and no meal costs more than $10. Take-out is available. Off-season hours sometimes change, so check ahead.
