The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is a symbol of the Outer Banks. The black and white spiral-patterned column extends above the island and offers unobstructed panoramic views of the sound, ocean, marshes and villages. As the tallest brick lighthouse in North America, it's one of the area's most popular attractions. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is operated by the National Park Service and is open to the public for climbing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday, starting on the third Friday in April until Columbus Day.
