Manteo Rotary's Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament There are now four categories that participants compete in: red drum, bluefish, sheepshead and speckled trout. Prizes and awards are presented in adult, women’s and youth divisions for the heaviest fish from each category. It’s a great way to spend time with your family and friends while also enjoying the sport you love. And no fishing tournament is complete without entertainment. The day ends with a pig picking, live music and a silent auction. Proceeds from this Outer Banks annual event go to scholarships for young members of the Outer Banks community, so you’re fishing for a worthy cause.

When it comes to promoting the health and wellness of infants and new mothers, sometimes it’s as easy as walking. The annual March for Babies, presented by the March of Dimes, is a fundraiser that strives to provide resources and programs to mothers and infants living in the Outer Banks. The March meets in a popular Outer Banks location each year, where the team of locals walks around three miles, raising awareness and donations. All donations to this event and to the individual team members goes toward funding research exploring the causes of premature birth, finding ways to prevent it and efforts to support new families with premature babies. The NC VIP Fishing Tournament is the biggest in the world. After all, it attracts not just visually impaired persons from across the state of North Carolina but also from all corners of the North American continent. With participants coming from the region to as far away as Canada, this tournament offers an incomparable three-day experience of Outer Banks life, which of course includes fishing. Attendees enjoy fishing on the Kitty Hawk, Nags Head and Jennette’s Fishing Piers in addition to head boats trips into the open waters. This annual event is more than a fishing tournament; it also gives participants an opportunity to experience local attractions, restaurants, shops and interact with the community. The tournament is sponsored by the Lions Clubs of First Flight, Manteo, Nags Head, Wanchese, lower Currituck and Columbia. Come one, come all to OBX Pridefest. This weekend-long annual event, held in September, is an awesome time to celebrate with the LGBTQ community. Starting on Friday and going through Sunday, you can check out a booze cruise, live music, touring productions and comedy shows, a drag brunch, nightly club dancing and the main festival, the Outer Banks Gay Pride Festival. The main festival, held at Soundside Event Site in Nags Head, is free and includes music, food and fun. Other events are held at various locations. You might want to attend one or two events, or you can purchase a pass that’ll get you into every event over the weekend. Different restaurants helping to sponsor the event also have vendors at outdoor daytime events and specials throughout the weekend. All daytime events are family-friendly; nighttime events are for ages 21 and older. The OBX Shred Fest embraces music, skateboarding and community. This family-friendly event features live performances from Outer Banks music groups and professional bands on its two stage, and there will be demos done by skateboarders, BMX riders, roller derby skaters and more. Watch them shred it – either on the guitar or on the skate ramps – while also enjoying the food and beverage vendors, checking out the raffles, art sale and other festivities. The best part of this event is that it benefits Dare2Care OBX, which raises awareness for veterans and individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Their main mission is to promote music opportunities for people with special needs by providing free, year-round music lessons. This Outer Banks annual event is held at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head.
