The Outer Banks is home to one of the most beautiful geographic locations in the world. From its Carolina blue skies, rolling sand dunes, swaying sea oats, isolated marshes and mighty ocean, you will be constantly in awe of the majestic environment. To help you take advantage of this picture perfect landscape, Outer Banks boardwalks are situated all over the coast for your enjoyment. Boardwalks let you walk on the edge of the sound or marsh, providing up close views of fish, crabs, snakes, birds and other critters that inhabit this area. And, when the marsh grass, bushes and trees slide right up to the side of the boardwalk, you can examine the flora in detail. Two Outer Banks boardwalks that are the most popular are along the waterfronts in Duck and Manteo. Both boardwalks take you past restaurants and shops and connect you to parks. And both provide front row seats to the spectacular Outer Banks sunsets that dazzle most evenings. Hang out to watch the sky light up with yellows, oranges, reds, pinks and purples as the sun sets and the moon brightens. Other boardwalks carry you over creeks, into bird-viewing areas and through maritime forests. Take some time to amble along a few while you're here.
