Manteo Middle School, Manteo Middle at a Glance - Week of 4/20

AVID

The 7th and 8th grade AVID students went to East Carolina University to tour the campus.  The students took a look at what college life will be like and came back ready to tackle their school work with more enthusasim.  The trip was designed to help the AVID students plan and look ahead.  " The trip was fun and made me really excited about going to college." said 8th grader -----.

Fifth Grade students visited MMS on April 22nd to tour the building and to get a better idea of what middle school will be like.  The 5th graders were given brief overview in the forum and then were broken into small group where the SGA representatives gave them a tour of our building. This program has been in place for several years and is one of the many ways that Manteo Middle helps students become comfortable with a new experience.  We look forward to seeing these students join the MMS family in next year.

Sons and daughters day for 6th grade students was on April 23rd.  It was indeed a quiet day in the 6th grade hallway and although many thought they would have an easy day off the students had to prepare a presentation and turn in information when they returned to school.  The experience gave the students a better understanding of the work their parents do daily.

7th grade art students go to credit union to create chalk art.  The students left the area with a new look that will be enjoyed for many more sunny days.

Preparations  for the PopTop assembly is underway!  The assembly will be May 8th at 2:00 pm. Please collect and send in those pop-tops!

In 6th grade Rhana Paris spoke to the science classes sharing statewide star party.  The classes were introduced to information from Science Festival and the school was left with a kit to use for farther investigation.
