After touring the house and grounds (see Attractions) visit the Museum Gallery. The gallery showcases the talents of both local and regional artists who create handmade treasures related to the property. For example, you’ll find custom-crafted jewelry and ornaments made from the original copper roof shingles, circa 1925. While browsing, you will also find a selection of hand-carved decoys, beautiful paintings, photos and prints. Also enjoy books on hunting, waterfowl and Outer Banks lore. Got kids? You’ll find plenty for them — from real working pirate telescopes and compasses to reproductions of toys and games from the 1920s era. For the rest of your family and friends, choose from Art Nouveau and Tiffany-inspired jewelry, notecards and bookmarks as well as Whalehead logo items including T-shirts, hats, coffee mugs and other souvenirs. Your purchases help save history as all proceeds support ongoing preservation at Whalehead. The Museum Gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
