Locally owned and operated since 1975, Whalebone has all the gear you need to outfit the whole family for the beach. They stock all the major surf brands with a large variety of sportswear, sandals and cool Whalebone logo tees. This is a great place to find a new swimsuit, with a full line of women’s suits and separates, children’s suits and tons of swim trunks for men. You’ll find all the sun protection you need with high-quality rash guards, sunglasses and sunscreen. Before you hit the surf, head to Whalebone for the best boarding equipment; they sell surfboards made by the best shapers in the world as well as skimboards and bodyboards. The knowledgeable and friendly staff will help find the right board for you. If you’ve never surfed before, Whalebone is a good place to start. They rent GSI and INT soft boards, great boards for beginners. Surf lessons are held June 1 through August 31; call ahead to register. The two-hour lesson begins at the shop with instruction, and then you’ll head to the beach. The surf instructors are experienced, local surfers who keep the emphasis on the student. Lessons include all equipment and transportation to the beach. Whalebone is open year round.
