Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is home to one of the largest populations of black bears in the eastern United States. Learn more about the bears and go on a scouting trip to look for the big furry creatures with a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff person. These programs are held on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in June, July and August. Meet at the Creef Cut Wildlife Trail parking lot, 4 miles west of the U.S. Highway 64/264 split. Bring binoculars and insect repellent. Immediately following the bear program is the Red Wolf Howling program, so you could feasibly do both. The program is free. Call for additional information.
