The Outer Banks is one of the few coastal places where you can actually drive on the beach. The beaches north of Corolla (aka Carova, home of the wild horses) and the beaches of Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Hatteras and Ocracoke islands) are open to beach driving year-round, and the beaches of Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills are open in the off-season (permits are required for all areas). If you don't have a four-wheel-drive vehicle, you can still enjoy this awesome beach access by renting a Jeep or 4x4 vehicle. Beach 4x4 Jeep Rentals makes it super easy with vehicles that are beach-ready and include passes for Carova and Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The vehicles are pet-friendly and seat five people. The vehicles are perfect for fishing excursions, sight-seeing, wild-horse watching or just bringing all your gear to the beach.
