One of four National Park Service campgrounds within Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Cape Point Campground is near the oceanfront next to Cape Hatteras Light Station and Cape Point. You can walk from here to the beach, the lighthouse and the Buxton Woods Nature Trail and ride a bike to the village shops and restaurants. The NPS campgrounds accommodate both tents and RVs on 202 sites with no hookups. Each site has a grill, picnic table and parking pad. Restrooms, unheated showers, potable water, a recycling center and a dump station are available to campers. Be aware that while it’s a beautiful campground, it’s also low-lying and can be quite buggy. Bring insect repellent and make sure your screens are patched! Reservations and camp site payments must be made online at recreation.gov. Pets are allowed if they’re kept on a leash. The campground is typically open from early April through the Monday after Thanksgiving.
