The community of Manteo comes together every year to celebrate this nation’s birth with day-long festivities, and you’re invited to this family-friendly Outer Banks annual event. You can begin your day with a trip to Island Farm to experience an 1850s 4th of July. Interact with the farm’s animals, listen to a reading of the Declaration of Independence, play games and eat some watermelon — you may start wishing every holiday could be celebrated like this. In the afternoon you can check out the downtown waterfront where you’ll be entertained by musicians, bicycles sporting red, white and blue, contests and more. And no 4th of July event is complete without fireworks. The Roanoke Island Festival Park combines a firework display with a concert so you can enjoy patriotic tunes while watching the colorful spectacle over the sound. If you want to take a different approach to the firework display, paddle or sail into the water for a secluded view.
