Homecoming Week October 5th-8th
CHSS will celebrate Homecoming. Students will participate by dressing up in different themes for each day. SGA members will organize a school wide Pep Rally for Friday's game that will take place at 2 pm in the High School Gym. At 4:00 there will be a parade that will travel from the Secondary School up to Buxton Back Road. The parade will then make its way down Hwy 12 back to the Secondary School. The Homecoming Ceremony will take place following the Football Game versus Mattamuskeet. Game time is at 7:00. Please come out and enjoy all of the festivities.
September Middle School Students of the Month
This past Tuesday, September 29th, the Middle School Students of the Month were honored with an assembly. Mrs. Melinda Baker was the guest speaker and her topic was cooperation. Students were encouraged to work together and become a unified group to help make themselves, their sports teams, and the school a better place. Students of the month are:
6th Grade: Elizabeth Muller and Alexis Quiroz
7th Grade: Victor De Lao Caldera and McKayla Gordon
8th Grade: Arlen Palacios and Liam Dilworth
CHSS September Star Students
High School Students are being recognized for standing out at CHSS. These students were selected by one or more of their teachers for doing great work in the classroom, lending a helping hand, demonstrating excellent behavior, or for being a stand out student. Great job to all the students that are featured on the bulletin board in the high school hall way.

CHSS Booster Club Fundraiser
The CHSS Booster Club is hosting a Shrimp Dinner Fundraiser to help CHSS Basketball Teams for the 2015-2016 season. Players and Booster Club Members have tickets for sale. Cost is $12 for the dinner and $1 for deserts. You will want to purchase your tickets ASAP. The Booster Club is expecting a big turn out and that food will go fast.
CTE Teacher Elvin Hooper Completes 2nd Book
Cape Hatteras Secondary School of Coastal Studies Carpentry teacher and author, Elvin Hooper, releases his second book October 16th at Buxton Village Books. In May of 2014 his first book, Chicamacomico How it was Back Then, was released. A historical fictional novel of life two hundred years ago. All along the Eastern Coast centered around Hatteras Island. His second book, Gull Island and Other Stories, covers life on Hatteras Island from the early fifties to the current day. "A time when you could take a man at his word and your neighbor was your friend," describes Hooper.
