Fashion Show was a Hit
On Friday, May 13th, Ms. Suzanne Jennette's Fashion Merchandising class hosted a Fashion Show in the school auditorium. Students and Teachers participated in the show wearing outfits from these local shops: Fisherman's Daughter, Hatteras Island Board Sports, Izabelle's Closet, Daydreams, and Kitty Hawk Kites. The students not only modeled the clothing, but ran the sound system, served as master of ceremonies, baked snacks, and ran lighting. This was a great project for the students to work with local businesses and put on a great night of the hottest summer line of clothing the island has to offer.
Hurricane Preparedness Week
This week has been Hurricane Preparedness Week as we enter Hurricane Season. Mrs. Carol Coryea invited NOAA Meteorologist, Casy Dail, to discuss with her middle school science classes about the dangers of Hurricanes, how they track storms, and being prepared in the event of a storm. Ms. Casey Dail showed the students some great videos and slides to reinforce just how dangerous upcoming tide can be along with powerful damaging winds. Mr. Ratliff also had his Video Journalism class create short videos that will help educate the students and their classes about Hurricanes. The students researched the items that they should have in their Hurricane Kits, how to prepare their homes for an incoming Hurricane, and learn about the evacuation routes.
