CHSS Band Plays with UNC Pembroke Jazz Band

This past week, the UNC Pembroke Jazz Band came to CHSS to play tunes from legendary Jazz musician from Rocky Mount, Thelonious Monk.  The UNC band performed for middle school and high school students  as well as introducing them to the theory of Jazz music.  After school, the CHSS Band was invited to stay and play their instruments of choice with the UNC band members.

Seventh Grade Visits UNC-CSI

The seventh grade took a field trip to visit the Coastal Studies Institute in Manteo. They learned about the unique maritime history of Eastern North Carolina and the role of shipwrecks as artificial reefs.  Through measurements and investigations students uncovered the identity of a mock shipwreck on the CSI campus.  The students then enjoyed a relaxing lunch in festival park.  Thank you Mr. John McCord and UNC-CSI team for this great opportunity.
