CHSS Students Featured in Documentary

CHSS students have been participating in the Conetoe food and cultural exchange.  This was a program that teachers Evan Ferguson and Erin Del Monte helped form to enrich the learning of their classes.  It even caught the attention of Alex Granados, reporter and videographer from EducationNC.org, and he wanted to help document this new relationship between CHSS and community members of Conetoe.  The goals of the relationship are to learn about each others culture, exchange farming and fishing skills, and discuss challenges of each community.  The students celebrated on May 8th with the screening of the documentary and ate some delicious breakfast items.  The documentary will be released for public view towards the end of May.

8th Grade Travel to Raleigh

The eighth grade class this year returned to Raleigh for two days of educational experiences and fun on April 29th and 30th.  The students visited the Natural History Museum, Zoo, Duke Energy, the State Capitol, and watched a live performance of Myth Busters.  The students had a great time on the trip and would like to thank the Hatteras Island Youth Education Fund for making this trip possible. If you would like to be involved or help with the HIYEF,  please visit www.hatterasyouth.com for more information.

CHSS Band Concert

On Wednesday, May 6th the CHSS Band performed  in the auditorium.  If you were not able to attend the concert, then you can watch the concert HERE.  You will need to sign up for a free account at HS Cube to be able to view the concert.  Great job to all the students that performed and helped make the concert a success.  We would also like to thank Mr. Sean McCroskey for his dedication and his great work for all he does with the music programs at CHSS.

7th Grade Celebrates Greek Fest

CHSS Seventh graders have been studying Greek and Roman mythology.  After reading many different versions of myths across cultures, students had the choice to design a mythical tabloid magazine or write a script to perform a familiar myth.  Students were invited to share Greek or Roman cultural foods and showcase their projects.  Good job to the students.
