Students Visit Christopher Newport University

Through a generous grant from HIYEF,  Mrs. Salmon took her Drama Club members, as well as a few of her students, to Christopher Newport University Friday, April 15th, to attend a production of Macbeth.  Prior to the performance that evening, students were graciously given an official tour of the campus.  It began with a presentation highlighting not just CNU itself, but the criteria college-bound students should take into consideration before choosing a college or university.  Most of the students were awestruck by the beauty and amenities offered by the university, especially the buildings, grounds, dorms, cafeteria offerings, and the gymnasium.  Later that evening, at the Ferguson Center for the Arts, the students were treated as VIPs by the CNU Theatre Staff, which provided the CHSS students reserved seating and a question and answer session with the cast following the performance.  Students thoroughly enjoyed Macbeth, as well as the "goodie-bags" filled with snacks and CNU memorabilia they received as parting gifts.

AVID Celebrates Earth Dday

In honor of Earth Day 2016, Coach Durham's HS AVID class performed a beach sweep last Wednesday.  They traveled to the Old Lighthouse site where they walked the beaches to the north and south picking up trash and debris.  The students had a great time learning about stewardship of our island home.  The following students participated in the beach clean up: Hannah Barnett,  Savannah Nichols, Hannah Lovell, Sandra Sanchez, and Madison Mesite

6th Grade Have an Oz Fest

Mrs. Lovie's 6th grade Language Arts class completed the reading of the Wizard of Oz this last week.  The class decided to have an Oz fest to celebrate  the completion of the novel.  Students brought in all types of different snacks, some wore costumes from the novel, presented group projects to the class, and played Wizard of Oz theme games.  The students had a great time and enjoyed the festivities.
