Set on 50 acres spanning ocean to sound, this family-owned camping resort offers 400 sites with full hook ups, including RV sites, tent sites and several one-bedroom rental units. Camp Hatteras offers planned activities during the summer such as water aerobics, crafts and karaoke as well as miniature golf, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, a game room, a playground, three pools and a Jacuzzi. They have cable TV and WiFi, laundry facilities and bathhouses. Camp Hatteras offers both ocean and sound access and a marina with watersports rentals, and you can rent bicycles too. Groups of all sizes are welcome – there’s a clubhouse for smaller gatherings as well as a conference center suitable for receptions, banquets, RV rallies and dances.

Jerniman's is a collective campground, gas station and golf cart rental business. The campground is the closest village accommodation to the ocean on Ocracoke Island, less than a half-mile shy of the first beach access road. It offers 29 sites, 24 of which can accommodate RVs and campers. Tent camping is allowed, and all sites have adequate space for parking. The sites offer electrical and water hookups, and some have septic as well. A communal laundry, bathhouse and dumping station are also on site. Adding to the convenience factor is a grocery store and hardware store right next to the campground. Reservations can be made online, and be sure to check their website for their list of fun events happening all year round. Hart's Hot Dog Hut is also on-site, open seasonally Tuesday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. for breakfast and lunch and Thursday through Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. for dinner.

This luxury suite-hotel has a peaceful soundfront location on the Nags Head/Manteo Causeway, and each suite has a private balcony with spectacular views of Roanoke Sound. Oasis Suites Hotel is less than a half-mile from the Atlantic Ocean, Jennette’s Pier and the Outlets Nags Head. Roanoke Island Inn is one of Manteo’s most beautiful historic inns. It’s in the heart of the historic district, situated along the boardwalk and overlooking the water. The original building dates to the 1860s, and later additions and renovations have this inn sprawling over its large lot with lush landscaping and a quaint picket fence. The inn offers eight rooms with private baths and outside entrances; two of the accommodations are family suites. Dog-friendly accommodations are available. A comfortable common area (wait until you see the frescoed ceiling), a peaceful back yard with a koi pond  and a well-stocked innkeeper’s pantry are welcoming touches. Guests have 24-hour access to the fully stocked pantry, and a continental breakfast is set out each morning from 8 to 11 a.m. WiFi is available in the guest rooms and the lobby. In the backyard garden is a bungalow offering two bedrooms and a wet bar but no cooking facilities. Children are welcomed in the two family suites and in the bungalow, and dogs are allowed in the bungalow. Bikes are available for guests to use. They close in January and February every year.

Roanoke Island Inn is now also offering the Croatan Cottage, a charming fully restored and furnished 1920s Sears kit home located in downtown Manteo next to the entrance to Roanoke Island Festival Park. Voted #6 in Best Homes 2012 by Hooked on Houses, the Croatan Cottage offers three bedrooms and three baths, sleeps up to six people and is pet friendly. The house rents for a two-night minimum.
