In the heart of historic Manteo in a restored 1903 home, Cameron House Next Door offers comfort in an easy-going Air B&B-type atmosphere. Currently, there is one guest room available, the Sandpiper, but three others will open in the fall of 2021. Guests in the Sandpiper enjoy a private screened-in porch with a wood-burning fireplace, sofa and chairs. This room also has a half-bath downstairs and full bath upstairs as well as a Keurig coffeemaker, mini-fridge, luxurious bed linens and towels. Practical touches like a hairdryer and a high def TV with streaming options make this room especially comfortable, and you can also bring your furry companion to this room with prior arrangements. Wireless internet access and a large desk make the Sandpiper room at Cameron House Next Door a good choice for business travelers who appreciate an Outer Banks accommodation that takes their needs into consideration. When the other rooms open, guests will be invited to put their feet up in the sitting room, to laze on the front porch in a rocking chair or to warm by the fireplace in colder months. Colonial Inn in Nags Head overlooks the magnificent Atlantic Ocean and combines traditional charm with modern accommodations, updated amenities and private beach access. Centrally located next to Nags Head Fishing Pier, this Outer Banks hotel is convenient to numerous attractions, outdoor activities and within walking distance of a variety of restaurants. One of the first establishments to provide guest accommodations in Nags Head, Colonial Inn was extensively renovated and remodeled in recent years. Accommodations include standard king and double rooms (with refrigerator and microwave), efficiency apartments and fully equipped apartments that sleep up to ten guests. Amenities include free passes to the Outer Banks Family YMCA, an outdoor swimming pool, outdoor grills and overflow parking. Colonial Inn is pet friendly, nonsmoking and only closes from December to March.

In a building constructed to resemble a historic life-saving station, Hatteras Island Inn is one of the most modern accommodations options on the island. There are 61 rooms here, each with a small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, cable TV and WiFi. Rooms feature two doubles or one king, and some have a sleeper sofa. There’s a park grill and an outdoor pool here, and the beach is within walking distance. Be sure to check out the observation tower, which offers nice views of the island. The office is open 24 hours, and the hotel is open year round. 

For clean, comfortable accommodations in an ideal Outer Banks location, Hotel Manteo, a Wyndham Resort, offers fresh, contemporary decor and boutique-style amenities in a traditional hotel setting. The hotel, part of the town's history since 1954, has been completely reimagined and updated, with all 78 standard rooms, suites and kitchenette apartments newly decorated and outfitted with furnishings, appliances and coffeemakers. Hotel amenities include a brand-new outdoor pool, a 24-hour fitness center, a comfortable lobby and refreshment kiosk, room service, free parking and complimentary WiFi. The onsite private event space, Embers Lounge, can accommodate up to 60 guests for seated or standing events, and the onsite restaurant, Firetender Stone Oven Cooking & Bar and Weeping Radish Taproom, is one of Manteo's most popular spots for dinner and Sunday brunch. Hotel Manteo's location has the feeling of quiet, small-town charm, yet the hotel is within walking or biking distance of all the popular Downtown Manteo shops, attractions, restaurants and bars, about a five-minute drive to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, The Elizabethan Gardens and The Lost Colony, and only about a 10-minute drive to the bustling beaches of Nags Head and Cape Hatteras National Seashore. 

Lighthouse View Oceanfront Lodging offers a delightful combination of rooms and suites, an oceanfront location and Southern hospitality, all within a short distance of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Located on the oceanside in the village of Buxton, their beachfront campus offers incredible views and proximity to the spacious Hatteras Island beaches. Many of their guests make this spot their retreat of choice year after year. Rooms are available overlooking the ocean with a semi-private deck or overlooking the pool, sound and sunsets and offer a mini-fridge, microwave and a coffeemaker. Suites offer a semi-private oceanfront deck, a full-size kitchen that opens to the living area and a private master bedroom with a king bed. In business since 1974, North Beach Campground is a family-oriented business on the oceanfront, which makes it quite popular. There is a waiting list for the permanent campsites. Nightly campsite rentals, which have water, electricity and sewage, fill up quickly. Camper sites with 50 amp and tent sites with 30 amp are available. Reservations are accepted. The bathhouse has hot and cold showers, and there’s a laundromat and small pool. The campground is behind North Beach General Store, which sells gas, groceries, RV supplies and a lot more. The clerk and registration desk are inside the store.

The oceanfront Outer Banks Motel offers 12 standard motel rooms, each with a refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and toaster. The motel grounds have a saltwater pool, hot tub, library, free rowboats and ocean access. In addition to its standard motel rooms, Outer Banks Motel offers six efficiency units with a full kitchen and 13 cottages, all with cable TV. The cottages and efficiencies are available by the week only in the summer. Outer Banks Motel also offers 20 cottages in the heart of Buxton, about a mile back from the ocean. These cottages range from one to three bedrooms and rent by the night or week.

Roanoke Island Inn is one of Manteo’s most beautiful historic inns. It’s in the heart of the historic district, situated along the boardwalk and overlooking the water. The original building dates to the 1860s, and later additions and renovations have this inn sprawling over its large lot with lush landscaping and a quaint picket fence. The inn offers eight rooms with private baths and outside entrances; two of the accommodations are family suites. Dog-friendly accommodations are available. A comfortable common area (wait until you see the frescoed ceiling), a peaceful back yard with a koi pond  and a well-stocked innkeeper’s pantry are welcoming touches. Guests have 24-hour access to the fully stocked pantry, and a continental breakfast is set out each morning from 8 to 11 a.m. WiFi is available in the guest rooms and the lobby. In the backyard garden is a bungalow offering two bedrooms and a wet bar but no cooking facilities. Children are welcomed in the two family suites and in the bungalow, and dogs are allowed in the bungalow. Bikes are available for guests to use. They close in January and February every year.

Roanoke Island Inn is now also offering the Croatan Cottage, a charming fully restored and furnished 1920s Sears kit home located in downtown Manteo next to the entrance to Roanoke Island Festival Park. Voted #6 in Best Homes 2012 by Hooked on Houses, the Croatan Cottage offers three bedrooms and three baths, sleeps up to six people and is pet friendly. The house rents for a two-night minimum. Scarborough Inn’s cedar-shaked buildings and covered porches welcome visitors with classic Outer Banks charm. Three buildings — the main inn, the annex and the barn — house 14 rooms, including two queen suites and other rooms with a variety of bed configurations. All rooms have a private bath, microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker, cable TV and free WiFi. Two good restaurants, Darrell’s and Stripers, are just across the street. This affordable inn has a great central location that is convenient to the historic waterfront area, the Roanoke Island attractions and the beaches.

A stunning historic house in the heart of downtown Manteo, The Manteo House is an elegant, picturesque location for wedding parties, private events, corporate retreats and team-building excursions or a fabulous whole-house vacation rental close to all the attractions of downtown Manteo and only 10 minutes from the Nags Head beaches. Situated on an acre right in the downtown area, the house is surrounded by a white picket fence.
