Distillery, Custom Cocktails and Tasting Room on the Outer Banks
Buffalo City Distillery is a one-of-a-kind distillery and tasting room. They distill whiskey, vodka and gin, and also grow their own grains on their farmland near Lake Mattamuskeet, NC. Owner, Buddy Byrum says growing their own grains in the rich Blacklands of Hyde County adds a unique terroir to their spirits. In addition to the classics, they distill flavored varieties like Blood Orange Vodka, Toasted Coconut Vodka, Crisp Apple Whiskey and Honey Roasted Almond Whiskey.
Buffalo City’s farm-to-bottle spirits can be found in ABC stores and at their tasting room in Point Harbor, just over the bridge from Kitty Hawk. Their tasting room is a popular gathering spot, and there is often something fun going on here, from tastings, cocktail classes, and tours to live music, trivia nights and special events.
Buffalo City Distillery History
Buffalo City Distillery is named for the former Dare County logging town of Buffalo City, a legendary hotspot for finely crafted Prohibition-era moonshine. Buddy Byrum and his wife, Sharon, opened this modern, state-of-the-art distillery in the fall of 2022. Before officially opening the distillery, Byrum distilled bourbon, which is now primed and ready for drinking. From its Blacklands-grown grains to its lively tasting room, Buffalo City Distillery blends Outer Banks history, craftsmanship, and good times into every pour.
