Manteo’s two-day Christmas celebration spurs a spirit of holiday cheer throughout the community that lasts all month. On the first Friday night in December head over to the waterfront area to watch a pageant that includes singing and storytelling. The night concludes with the illumination of the town tree in front of the historic courthouse. The next morning the Christmas parade enlivens the downtown area with floats, bands, horses, festively adorned cars and Santa. After the parade you can join the Manteo Preservation Trust Holiday Home Tour that takes you to splendidly decorated homes and other attractions in Manteo. Visits to Island Farm for Christmas Past — a glimpse at 1850s Roanoke Island Christmas — and to The Elizabethan Gardens for WinterLights are a must on this day as well.
