Hemilright Entertainment brings some of the best musical performances to the Outer Banks every year, and the 2017 season is no exception. This season, they're sponsoring Pickin’ on the Porch, a free concert series that features a variety of acoustic music on the Bluegrass Island Trading Co. porch from June through October. In downtown Manteo’s Phoenix Shops, the location has plenty of lawn space for the whole family to relax and enjoy the tunes. Their 2017 lineup includes Edgar Loudermilk featuring Jeff Autry on June 16, Forlorn Strangers on June 30, A Deeper Shade of Blue on July 14, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road on August 11 and Presley Barker on August 25. The season will end with the United States Navy Band performing on October 2. Food and beverages are available for purchase on site, and chairs and blankets are welcome.
Hemilright Entertainment also presents the Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival, an annual four-day event that highlights more than 30 bands on the first weekend in October (October 4 to 7 in 2017) at Roanoke Island Festival Park’s outdoor pavilion. Gates open at 10 a.m. with performances going virtually nonstop from 12 p.m. until around 11 p.m. each day. This year’s lineup features The Isaacs, Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, The Gibson Brothers, Flatt Lonesome, Billy Strings along with many others. There will be plenty of on-site food options from many local restaurants, plus you can shop among many talented arts and crafts vendors.
