Certifications for CHSS Students

Mrs. Georgia Hardee, Adobe Certified Associate and CHSS Digital Media Teacher, will be providing students with the opportunity to take Adobe Certification Tests beginning this February.  Any student that has gone through the Digital Media or Adobe Academy classes will have the option to take some practice tests to prepare for the Adobe Tests.  Ms. Suzanne Jennette, Microsoft IT Academy Teacher and Marketing, had 6 students become certified in both Microsoft Office Word and Power Point 2013 this past semester.  Becoming certified in various fields or programs helps students that will be going into the workforce and help prepare them for College.  These teachers do a great job in helping our students use programs and software that will help them in the future.

SGA in the Community

Rusty Wilkinson, Hatteras Island Youth Baseball, presented Mrs. Karla Jarvis, CHSS Counselor, with a check for their hard work last baseball season.  The SGA (Student Government Association) ran the concession stand last spring at the Hatteras Island Youth Baseball games. They were responsible for opening, setting up, selling concessions, restocking, and cleaning up after the games. The money the council earned will help us provide resources and fund events for the entire student body as well as presenting a scholarship for student service to the school. Students so far this year have participated in the football Trick or Treat event, sponsored Homecoming week, a Winter Break party, sponsored a Friends of Rachel event, and have secured an umbrella license to be able to host movie nights that will be open to the public. The council also plans to host a Spirit Door decorating contest to coincide with Senior Basketball Week later this month; sponsor additional Friends of Rachel events and Class Olympics in the spring. Additionally, in May the council will present a scholarship to a deserving senior who has contributed to their school through service with the SGA.

Middle School Language Arts Digital Autobiography Presentations

Mrs. Lovie's Language Arts class celebrated their digital autobiographies on Friday with snacks, family, and friends.  The students assignment was to create a slideshow/presentation or video using pictures and video to tell a little about themselves.  This was a great project that helped students see how they have grown to this point and re-live some of their childhood moments.  Thank you to the parents that came out and showed their support.

National History Day Fair

Students are working to prepare for the National History Day Fair.  They are collecting resources online, watching videos, interviewing local historians, and building the presentation boards.
