Cape Hatteras Secondary School, This Week at Cape Hatteras Secondary School February 12th Edition

Senior Night at CHSS

Thursday was Senior night at CHSS with the basketball teams playing Manteo.  The Senior basketball players, cheerleaders, wrestlers, and book keepers were honored.  This class is one that is very active in the school and many participate in extra curricular activities.  It was an emotional time to see some of these young men and women take the basketball court for the last time here at CHSS.  We wish all the seniors good luck in the future and will always be here to support them.  Thank you 2016 Senior Class for the memories and your dedication to this school.  You will be missed.

Boater Safety Classes and Swim Lessons

Students, Parents, and Guardians- there is an important program coming to CHSS at the end of February.  The US Coast Guard Auxiliary is working with locals on providing students with a Boater Safety Course.  Students will learn valuable information that will help them and also guidelines that have now become law.  Safety is the key word for this program and want all of our students to be safe at all times on the water.  There will also be swim lessons this spring for any CHSS student.  Please sign up at Office Gary Kierney's office.  These are FREE programs and want as many students as possible to take advantages of these life saving programs.

Food Class Visit Culinary Institute

Foods 2 and Culinary Arts students from Cape Hatteras Secondary School and First Flight High School visited The Culinary Institute of VA and New Earth Farm in Virginia Beach on February 3.  This was an amazing opportunity for students to explore different careers in foods and sustainable agriculture.  Students learned about careers in culinary arts and restaurant management and then were served lunch prepared by first year Culinary Institute of VA students.  At New Earth Farm, students were schooled about organic farming practices and the role soil biology plays in productive crops and our environment as we move into the future.
